Description
The Blue Reef Chromis or Blue Chromis Damselfish (Chromis Cyanea) is a very peaceful and active fish found in Bermuda, southern Florida and the Caribbean Sea. In the wild, it lives on the surface of reefs, but often swims in the water columns above the reefs to feed on plankton. In the aquarium they will reside in the upper part, and will help bring out more shy species that normally hide. It’s commonly found at depths of 3 to 5 meters, but it can reach depths of 25 meters below sea level. Blue Reef Chromis or Blue Chromis Damselfish is a rather solitary species, seen alone or in small groups, and tends to stay close to the reefs. The younger fish stay near the bottom in order to avoid predators.
The Blue Chromis Damselfish should be maintained together in a group, and make a bright addition to the reef or fish only aquarium that is 30 gallons or larger. The males maintain a solitary breeding territory. After breeding with multiple females, they guard the eggs until the planktonic larvae hatch. The Blue Reef Chromis feeds on a variety of meaty items, herbivore preparations, and flaked food.
