Convict Tang Fish or Convict Surgeonfish
$39.99 – $99.99
Description
The Convict Tang, also known as the Convict Surgeonfish, has a stunning white to silver body highlighted by six vertical black bars. The peduncle spines (near the tail) are rather small compared to that of other Tangs. It is typically about 3.9″ inches long, but some individuals may grow larger than 7.8″ inches. These tangs are widespread. They are found in the Indo-Pacific except for seas around the Arabian Peninsula, in the Pacific at the Hawaiian Islands, and in the Eastern Pacific they are found in the lower Gulf of California and down to Panama, including the Revillagigedo, Clipperton, Cocos, and Galápagos Islands.
A great addition to the reef or fish only aquarium. It requires a large area in which to swim – at least a 125 gallon aquarium. It should not be included in a tank with other species of Tangs, since they will harass it. It will live peacefully with other Convict Tangs if all are introduced to the tank at the same time.
Although Convict Tangs will eat meaty foods along with the other fish in the aquarium, it is important that they are offered plenty of marine based seaweed and algae. This will strengthen their immune system, reduce aggression and improve their overall health.
