The Lyretail Hogfish found in the Indo-Pacific, Red Sea, to Srilanka. This hardy fish is probably one of the best Hogfish to keep in a home aquarium. It is one of the last aggressive but is best when kept with moderately aggressive tank-mates like Tang Fish and Angelfish. Adult Lyretail Hogfish are often seen blowing jets of water at the substrate to uncover worms, snails and other small crustaceans hidden in the sand.
As juveniles, most Lyretail Hogfish should be kept with non-aggressive and docile tank-mates. As they grow they will become boisterous and harass these fish and should be moved to a more aggressive system. The Lyretail Hogfish eats crustaceans, worms, snails and small clams.
